Success Has a Price (For the Listener)

[mp3, podcast, Gervais]

What MarketWatch.com calls "one of Apple's most popular podcasts,"
the "Ricky Gervais Show" is now in agreement with Audible to become a
subscription-based download starting next month.

Non-subscribers will pay $1.95 an episode, either on Audible's U.S.
and U.K. Web sites or at the iTunes Music Store.

Time will tell if the podcasts were popular because they were free,
Mr. Gervais is a comic genius, or a bit of both. I admit to
subscribing to them but have fallen behind in listening to them of
late. Doubtful I will be converting to a pay-subscription any time
soon. One does not remain a cheap-ass-bastard easily, you see.

Yep, I saw the subscription price & decided not worth it. I REALLY decided not worth it when I went through the hassle of registering at audible.com just to download the free preview that was only 5 minutes anyway! I'm almost caught up on the free series, and laughed a bunch which was a great help on the long drives back to Sac, but I really think that Stephen Merchant is the funnier one...and I think that Ricky's head is getting a bit large for his shoulders perhaps...time will tell if he'll really make money off podcasting...
