kings of sleep

As I write this it is officially the end of the Winter (Christmas) vacation and now just an ordinary weekend. Usually one looks forward to a Saturday but somehow, after this many days away from work – nine and counting – this Saturday has a unusual feeling of dread associated with it.

I have been trying to wake up earlier and earlier the closer it gets to a regular workaday Monday which has not been to easy, this many days of vacation can turn anyone into a fan of late sleeping. I guess sleep is one of those things that is undervalued by those that can and (to borrow a phrase) a 'pearl of great price' to those that have trouble with it. I have been told that sometimes I am not the easiest person to sleep next to (readers, you'll have to take their word for it, sorry) for many reasons, not limited to incessant talking, blanket thievery and the occasional amateur diagnosis of sleep apnea.

I normally would not listen to such non-medical opinions but in this case, she who is making the diagnosis does know a bit of which she speaks, having experienced living with someone who has and I believe still does receive treatment for their sleep apnea.

Check out the link above and the medical resources for patients. Their site is a directory of all the medical centers and doctors nationwide that treat sleep disorders and cure sleep apnea. If you have any of the symptoms, perhaps in 2009 it would be worthwhile getting tested. The night's rest you save could be more than just your own.
