Another Blog-Worthy Photo From the Good People on Flickr

Just a quick peek at a picture I starred on Flicker: Victorian Dragon window, full view

****Best viewed on black: push the letter "L" key on your keyboard to see the photo against a black background!*** Some years ago, I had the chance to do some repair work on this wonderful antique window and took several photos of it at that time. From what I can gather, this window probably originated in a very grand Victorian home here in Topeka, Kansas. Like many locations during the 1920s, 1930s, & 1940s, in Topeka many of those large homes were being demolished, and occasionally, architectural pieces of them (like stained glass windows) were salvaged and used elsewhere. This window has since been salvaged from a much newer house (probably built in the 1940s) that was, itself, being demolished, but the window clearly predates that 1940s house. The quality of the painting on the dragon is very fine. All the bright round circular pieces were cut and polished glass jewels. The dragon is the only part of the window that has any fired-on paint, to add all scales, eyes, etc. The dragon, like all the rest of the window, has all the color coming from the glass pieces themselves and not from any added paint or stain. ###This is a more recently shot duplicate of my original print which was taken years ago on a non-digital camera.###
