DirecTV DVR Needs to See Satellite To Funtion?

[DirecTV]

That big wind storm knocked out dish out of alignment and killed our
TV reception - but it also disabled the DVR and refuses to let us
watch pre-recorded entertainment.

(Remind me again why I didn't get a DVR directly from TiVO?)

Also, I can't belive I am actually agreeing with a Comcast commercia right now.

I guess recording this year's Rose Parade (Storm Troopers!!) is not
going to happen. Hmpf!

That sounds fishy...even when my dish wasn't set up correctly I was able to watch pre-recorded shows on my Tivo box...but I don't think DirecTV sells Tivo boxes anymore, do they? :( Have you tried resetting the box itself, either software reset from the on-screen commands, or a good old powercycle? Good luck!

P.S. Lots of my outside decorations were thrashed & pots broken from wind while I was away in Sac, but thankfully my dish is working!

Update: We could get some of the shows to play – I had hit the big red shiny 'reset' button which started the hunt for a signal but hitting 'exit' on the remote followed by 'list,' managed to let us watch the 2 part Dr Who finale before we left!

Sadly the DVR expert at DirecTV was at a loss on how to solve this but thanks to a suggestion on the DTV forum we got it running.
