Can They Hear Me Now? (Your World: Delivered)

[privacy, internet, Mercury News]

Wonderful yet chilling speculation from Larry Magid over at the Mercury news about one possible future of modern telecommunication:

One was a report in the New York Times that Verizon had blocked an abortion rights organization from using its network to promote a political message that the wireless carrier deemed to be "controversial or unsavory." The other was a demonstration I witnessed at the Demo show in San Diego of Pudding Media's Voice over Internet Protocol service that provides free advertising-supported calls. Voice recognition software on the company's servers listen to your calls and display context-sensitive advertising while you speak, based on the actual words being spoken.

If these two events were to ever collide, private and uncensored phone calls could become an endangered species.

Here's a thought: what if this is already going on i n a back room at AT&T?
