Apple Brings Back the Duo (sorta)
So Apple is coming out with a lightweight 'ultra-portable,' that shaves down the weight and size by eliminating the optical drive.
I assume we will get the same arguments (both pro and con) about the 'missing' drive as we had in the days of the PowerBook Duo (one of the first floppy-less portable Macs after the much maligned PowerBook 100).
Having dragged a G4 PowerBook to a meeting on the other side of the country, I can tell you I used the CD/DVD drive a grand total of ZERO times. As log as you can 'Handbreak' a movie to USB thumb-drive (or iPod) size, I say less weight and longer battery are much more important than burning the odd CD. That's what Kinkos and the hotel business center are for.
Perhaps I should start complaining about the price now....
