Romance in the Desert

When you are looking for travel for two or family vacation ideas for this summer. permit me to tell you a tale of the time M & I went to Las Vegas, Nevada. We had always joked about going there, especially when we were at the height of our Frank Sinatra and martini days. On a whim, when asked what we were going to do for New Year's Eve, I replied, "Going to Vegas." This was before our wedding so you can imagine the speculation that caused at my job!

We found some cheap airline tickets and booked a room at the Hard Rock Hotel, which was still new enough and just far enough off 'The Strip' that it wasn't yet full of rowdy guests. Some great food options in the lobby area, some cool looking gaming tokens (I call them 'Poker Chips' but I guess the proper term is a check or cheque) and an amazing, free-form outdoor pool that is wired for sound.

On the evening of the 31st we got dressed to the nines (I wore a white tuxedo jacket with black shirt and tie), hopped into a very high-tech cab and over to the (now closed) Sands Hotel for a very swinging time with The Rotyal Crown Review in quite a small theater which only added to the exclusive feel. After the new year had began, it was back to the hotel, out of our formal wear and skipping the PG-13 stuff, room service waffles and the annual Rose Parade on the television, a tradition in our household.
