Homeless, with iPod
Two fare inspectors checking for tickets and passes right as I boarded
light rail this morming and already there was a problem with a
20something guy with an Army recruiting folder and some paperwork
inside about traffic court. He was very upset that he was going to
miss his court date, only problem was the male inspector noticed his
appointment was for 8:30, a little under an hour from that point. He
claimed homlessness, his small bag as proof of his meager possessions.
Most of this was while he had his one earpiece of his headphones in,
green Nano dangling.
The inspector said if he was homeless there were programs available,
he said he knew & why he was enlisting. The inspector said he was
referring to transit assistance. He was lobying for fairness, that he
had no money and already owed a $250 fine (hence the traffic court
date?). The inspector waited and asked if he was done and ready to
listen. He was asked to get off the train and get a citation since he
could not pay for the ride he had already taken ("all I have is a
quarter"), when the woman inspector recognized him as someone she had
spoken with previously. This, he was informed, was already his warning
and now he was definately getting a citation. His last words I could
hear was saying he only wanted to go a few blocks, which was countered
with, "if it was that short perhaps you should have walked...."
