That's not scary, THIS is scary!

The Great Whale Trail

31 October, 2007

It's like something out of a horror movie. Hundreds of feet beneath cold ocean waters lurks a massive creature known for her mighty strength and soulful songs. Few have ever caught a glimpse of her. Now she's surfaced......

Her name is Neo, and she's a beautiful humpback whale. She's been tagged by scientists so we can track her and her calf by satellite on their amazing journey to the icy waters of the Southern Ocean. And you too can follow Neo's epic voyage online and help protect her and her calf from an unthinkable fate.

Because this is the horror part. This year, the Japanese whaling fleet will be in the Southern Ocean hunting humpbacks like Neo - 50 of them, along with 50 endangered fin whales and nearly 1,000 minke whales.

It doesn't have to be this way -- you can make the difference. Join The Great Whale Trail today and help Greenpeace raise the funds we need to defend Neo and over 1,000 other whales from the hunter's deadly harpoons. Click here now to create your own Whale Defenders fundraising page and invite your family and friends to support our critical campaign.

Create your own Whale Defenders page - click here.

This Halloween don't just settle for candy, the trick is to get your friends to make a donation to Greenpeace through your Whale Defender page. Because this isn't a horror movie, it's real, and the consequences for Neo and her calf loom large.

So treat yourself to the peace of mind that comes with making a difference in the life of one whale - or many - join the Great Whale Trail today.

Residents in Path of California Wildfires Urged to Plan for Pets’ Safety

From the Humane Society of the United States:

"Wildfires raging from Santa Barbara to San Diego have
forced Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to declare a state
of emergency for seven southern California counties.
The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS)
strongly urges all pet owners in the path of the fires
to plan ahead for the safety of their animal
companions.

Strong winds and dry conditions have fed the fires
that have already forced thousands of residents to
evacuate their homes. HSUS employees are ready to
evacuate The Fund For Animals Wildlife Center in
Ramona, Calif., which houses a wide variety of rescued
animals. Local volunteers helped the fast-acting staff
to prepare the site and protect the animals at the
Wildlife Center. Fires are burning to the east of the
center such that the animals are currently outside the
path of the fires.

Employees at the Wildlife Center, who have experienced
evacuations first-hand, urge all residents in the path
of the fires to be prepared to take their pets if they
have to leave their homes. If the area is not safe for
you, it is not safe for your pets. Information
regarding pet and large animal evacuation centers is
being widely broadcast on local television and radio
outlets. No animal needs to be left behind as long as
they can be transported."

Disney California Adventure to be 'Pixar-ed'

Grand California Hotel LobbyOrlandoSentinal.com: Walt Disney Co. is going back to the drawing board to overhaul its underperforming California Adventure theme park -- a project the company said Wednesday could result in a new name for the property. Disney Chief Executive Officer Robert Iger and other executives would not disclose the cost of the project, but it will exceed $1 billion, according to a person familiar with the plans who was not authorized to speak publicly about it.

The figure eclipses the original cost of California Adventure, which opened in 2001. The overhaul, which will take five years, will be designed to make the park look and feel more like it was conceived by Walt Disney himself, complete with a re-creation of the movie theater that hosted the 1938 premiere of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. It will also add a 12-acre section based on the hit Pixar Animation movie Cars.

Subject: Re:Please Protect the California Condor

Thank you for your e-mail in support of AB 821. I appreciate hearing
from my fellow Californians on issues that are important to them, and
I welcome your input on legislation that affects the future of
California.

I am pleased to inform you that I signed this bill after extensive
consideration and thorough deliberation of arguments from both
supporters and opponents of this issue. I remain committed to
protecting California's diverse wildlife for future generations. You
may read the final language of this bill on the Official California
Legislative Information website: www.leginfo.ca.gov.

Again, thanks for voicing your opinion on this issue. Taking the time
to communicate your views and offer suggestions is essential to good
citizenship and good government. I value the comments of people like
you who are engaged in the improvement of our great state.

Sincerely,

Arnold Schwarzenegger
